Xmas (and other occasions)

Fish is a great choice for all occasions, whether for a regular weeknight dinner or a special occasion. Because it’s such a versatile food, it can be used to make heaps of different dishes suitable for the festive season (and, of course, other special occasions). 

Prawn tempura, mini oatcakes topped with avocado and smoked trout, pancetta-wrapped scallops, baby gem lettuce leaves topped with crab cocktail, prawn or scallop skewers, mouthfuls of sashimi or sushi, popcorn prawns and calamari, all make great canapés. Vol-au-vents and sandwiches filled with tuna, crab or prawns, a whole fresh salmon or trout, smoked mackerel or tuna paté, a bowl of tuna nicoise salad, fish gougons made with cod, hake or haddock, bite-sized Thai fish cakes and prawn spring rolls are ideal for buffet tables. 

Great starters when you’re entertaining include potted crab, prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, trout or mackerel, fish soup, pan-fried scallops, seafood risotto and garlic prawns. And for a stunning main course, dishes made with lobster or crab are bound to impress.
