The Mediterranean diet isn’t a specific diet but a collection of the types of foods that are traditionally eaten by people living in countries that border the Mediterranean Sea such as Greece, Spain, Italy and France. Traditional Med-based diets tend to include lots of fish, fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta, beans, nuts and olive oil, while red meat, eggs and full-fat dairy products are usually only eaten in small amounts. Studies show that a traditional Mediterranean diet is linked to good health, including keeping your heart healthy. You can eat more like a Mediterranean by including more fish, fruit, veg, bread and pasta in your diet and choosing olive oil instead of butter.
