Satiety is the feeling of fullness we get after eating. If we feel satiated after eating, then we are likely to go longer before feeling hungry again, and we may eat less at our next meal – great news for helping to manage our weight. Foods that are rich in fibre can help to fill us up so eating wholegrain cereals, bread and pasta, as well beans, lentils, fruit and veg is a good choice. But according to the British Nutrition Foundation, foods that are high in protein also seem to make us feel fuller than foods that are high in fat or carbohydrates. This means it makes sense to include protein-rich foods at every meal to keep us satisfied. And that’s where all fish – white, shellfish and oily – make a great choice as they’re all packed with protein.
