Fish oil supplements

It’s always better to get nutrients from the food we eat rather than supplements, and omega-3 fats are no exception. Eating the recommended two portions of fish each week, one of which should be oil-rich, should provide us with all the omega-3 fats we need to stay healthy. But that’s not all! Fish also provides a range of other nutrients including protein, B vitamins, vitamin D and a range of minerals such as selenium, iodine and phosphorus – something that fish oil supplements don’t provide. If you still decide to take supplements then follow a few guidelines. Firstly, look for omega-3 supplements rather than fish liver oil supplements. The latter are very high in vitamin A, which in large amounts over a long time can be harmful.
