Lessons and resources designed to engage children with fish as a food
The Fish is the Dish Education Resources Pack is a set of cross-circular lessons and resources designed to engage children with fish as a food, the different species of fish, fish dishes and the health benefits of eating fish. Our introductory flyer explains exactly what the resource pack is and what is included.
The resources focus on six species of fish - plaice, haddock, crab, langoustine, scallop and mackerel - which represent white fish, shellfish and oily fish.
Key activities include making simple, tasty fish dishes such as Tropical prawn/langoustine rice, Crunchy crab cakes and tasting different fish.
The pack and online resources provide teachers with the tools they need to deliver fun and engaging lessons for their pupils. The home-school workbooks provide activities for children to work on at home with their parent/carer (more information) to encourage engagement.
Here are the full Teacher notes. We recommend that you teach the six lessons in a block, however we have separated the teacher notes in to individual lessons in case you wish to run specific lessons in isolation.
