Lessons and resources designed to engage children with fish as a food
The Fish is the Dish Education Resources Pack is a set of cross-curricular lessons and resources designed to engage children with fish as a food, the different species of fish, fish dishes and the health benefits of eating fish.
The resources focus on six species of fish - coley, cod, haddock, prawns, mussels and mackerel - which represent white fish, shellfish and oily fish.
Key activities include making simple, tasty fish dishes such as Tropical Prawn Rice and Coley Fish Fingers and tasting different fish.
The pack and online resources provide teachers with the tools they need to deliver fun and engaging lessons for children in Key stage 1. The home-school workbooks provide activities for children to work on at home with their parent/carer to encourage engagement.
The pack has been developed with links to the current curriculum in England with Curriculum links from September 2014.
Here are the full Teacher notes. We recommend that you run this as a full theme with all six lessons, however we have broken the teacher notes down for each of the lessons in case you wish to run one specific lesson in isolation.
