Billingsgate Education Programme

We are all aware of the challenges around food that face the UK – everything from health and nutrition to sustainability and provenance. Equipping future generations with the tools they need to tackle these issues is paramount, and that starts with catering students.

Seafish Education with Billingsgate Seafood School

Through programmes like the enhancement days at Billingsgate and the ‘Young Seafood Chef of the Year’ competition, we’ve seen tremendous creativity, skill and dynamism from the young chefs that we’ve worked with. They have never failed to inspire us with their ingenuity, and we want to harness that energy to bring positive experiences of fish and seafood to another generation. Student chefs are the key influencers of the future, and we want to help prepare them for that important role.

Billingsgate Pilot 2

In partnership with Billingsgate Seafood School, Seafish are offering 35 colleges the opportunity to bring their level 2 and 3 catering students to the historic Billingsgate market in London and take part in a fully-funded enhancement day worth over £1,000.

The visit will cover a market tour, fish and shellfish preparation skills and the chance to learn from industry experts about the world of seafood.

Colleges are then asked to share their newly-gained seafood knowledge back home by holding an outreach day in their local community. This could be visiting a school or community group, or could take place at the college itself.

Billingsgate Seafood School will be on hand to help with organising the event, with PR support from Seafish to help promote the day.
